Thame, a picturesque market town in the heart of Oxfordshire, offers the perfect location to stop and pause. The quaint shops and historic buildings are nestled in the expansive Oxfordshire countryside. This delightful town is the perfect location to escape city life.
Start your weekend by taking a leisurely stroll through Thame’s town centre, where you’ll find a mix of independent shops, cafes, and restaurants. Be sure to visit the historic Thame Museum, housed in a beautiful 16th-century building, to learn more about the town’s rich history.
You can’t visit the market town of Thame without stopping by the markets! Every Tuesday morning in the town centre is the weekly market selling a variety of fresh produce. On a Friday, you’ll find the farmers’ market. Here you can browse stalls selling fresh produce, artisan bread, local cheeses, and handmade crafts. It’s a great place to pick up some delicious local treats to enjoy during your weekend stay.
Thame is surrounded by beautiful countryside, with plenty of walking and cycling routes to explore. Head out into the Chiltern Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and take in the stunning views of rolling hills, ancient woodlands, and quaint villages.
Enjoy a traditional pub lunch: No weekend in Thame would be complete without a visit to one of the town’s traditional pubs. 10 pubs down one road gives you more than enough choice and makes for an excellent (or dangerous!) pub crawl.
Although there is plenty to do in Thame itself, there are also lots of nearby sightseeing opportunities. The grand Waddesdon Manor has beautiful gardens and a world class collection of art, located just 25 minutes from Thame. Likewise, the historic city of Oxford, renowned for its’ universities and stunning architecture is just 20 minutes away and well connected by public transport.
Finally, take some time to relax and unwind during your weekend in Thame. Book a relaxing spa treatment at The Oxfordshire Golf Hotel and Spa, with stunning views and just 10 minutes away from Thame town centre. Staying in Thame itself, you can indulge in a leisurely afternoon tea at Black Goo, a vibrant café serving a huge array of cakes the size of your head!
